Rowan is a lean young boy with a fairly pale skin complexion, his cheeks dotted with freckles. He has a long shag of brown hair since he doesn't often get it cut it often grows to be a bit matted looking, seeming almost wild, and he usually tries to style it to cover his left eye. Both his eyes are blue, but his left looks strange, almost silver since it no longer has a retina. This is something he's teased about a lot so he tries to cover up his blind eye with the hair. His clothing style is very relaxed, and he has enough clothes but not a lot of outfits since he often doesn't have the money for clothes shopping.
-Intelligent: Rowan is a smart kid, and up until recently his grades in school were always good. But since the death of his parents he seemed to stop caring about his studies altogether, and it only got worse when he lost part of his sight. He became frustrated and some teachers have expressed concern about possibly having to hold him back.
-Creative: This is one of his strongest tools, Rowan has always had a creative mind. He can turn almost anything into a story, and he used to love to share his stories with everyone that he knew, and a lot of his friends enjoyed hearing them. But these days, he only reads to Lucky in the back alley, and he doesn't share his stories with anyone else.
-Kind: He keeps his guard up, but Rowan is far from being an uncaring snot nosed brat. He is actually concerned about others and there are moment when this part of his personality really shines through, particularly with older people, or people that look like they need help. He knows's what it's like in a way to not be working at your full potential, and it's in that way that he relates to the elderly.
-Determined: He has shown time and time again to be determined, not giving up even when he's in his toughest moments. He doesn't see this in himself but overcoming his handicap is one of the things that has really proved his determination.
-Careful: He usually thinks things through, not one to take action without thinking about it. Even his most thoughtless sounding words have usually been carefully assessed in his mind, and if saying them will give him the result he wants.
-Headstrong: He's a sturrborn boy, and won't often give up his stance in any situation without a fight about it.
-Confrontational: He doesn't often let an arguement go, he challenges people and even gets upset if they don't respond. He is particularly sensitive about his eye and has gotten into a few physical fights with his peers because of it.
-Closed off: He can be very hard to talk to when it comes right down to it. He hasn't opened himself up to making friends in a long time, and tends to avoid long conversations, or speaking too much about himself.
-Lonely: His only friend being a dog, you could say that sometimes he wishes he would let himself make a friend or two.
-Pessimistic: He usually sees the glass half empty.
-To get out of his Foster home
-To adopt Lucky
-To become a writer one day
-That his writing isn't a good as he hopes it is
-That he'll never be adopted
-He'll never hear from Lucas again
-Something happening to Lucky
Jenson Abernathy (Father)✞- Jenson took great care of his sons, and they were both very close to him. He worked hard for his family, and his boys loved and respected him greatly. However, he died in a building fire alongside his wife while the boys were on a school wilderness trip.
Gracie Abernathy (Mother) ✞-Gracie loved her boys and only wanted them to become better, as any mother would. They clashed at times but both her sons knew she wanted what was best for them. She used to knit them scarves for the Winter, which Rowan always acted like he hated. But after she died alongside Jenson, Rowan still has the last scarf she knitted him to this day, and can be seen wearing it a lot in the winter, almost guarding it.
Lucas Abernathy (Twin Brother)- Being twins, the boys were always close to eachother. They fought over everything, as little boys do, but at the end of the day they were best friends. When their parents died, they were eventually separated in the System. Lucas ended up remaining in New York City while Rowan's foster family ended up being in Westhaven. He has no idea where his brother is now.
Nicholas Henderson (Foster Father)- Nicholas and his wife Lisa are both alcoholics. They were convinced that having a foster child would get them more money from the state, so they became foster parents and began looking after Rowan. Things were never fine, though Rowan usually tries to stay out of their way, especially Nicholas, who tends to be a little violent and angry when drunk.
Lisa Henderson (Foster Mother)- Lisa is as addicted to alcohol as her husband is, but she is the one who tries to keep up appearances. However both she and her husband lost a lot of interest in Rowan when it turned out he wasted more money than he made them, so any appearance of a loving and concerned foster mother are a farce. She and Nicholas did nothing for a long while when Rowan came down with a bad case of Conjunctivitis, and Rowan knows that they are the reason he lost the sight in that eye due to late treatment.
Lucky- Lucky is a stray dog that lives in the back alley of Rowan's apartment building. He's been told by his foster parents many times he's not allowed to have a pet, but Lucky likes him, and follows him around the city when he's out and about. Rowan often saves a portion of his meals, and later in the night he'll sneak out to give it to Lucky just behind his home.
Honor LaRouche (Adoptive Mother)
Aramis LaRouche (Adoptive Father)
Adelaide LaRouche (Adoptive Sister)
-Rowan was born in New York City alongside his twin brother Lucas. They grew up fairly street smart though they didn't spend all their time on the streets. When he was young he actually spent a lot of time imagining his own stories, writing down little adventures and as he got more and more absorbed in that, he spent less and less time outside.
-His father took him and Lucas fishing a few times, and he found it was something that he enjoyed, but still not as much as writing, and those trips only inspired him to write up crazy fantasy stories where his father was a ship captain and he and Lucas were his crew.
-Gracie encouraged them to go on a class trip when they were nine years old, a weekend out of the city with their friends. So they went, but their apartment caught fire thanks to some faulty wires, and began burning around the middle of the night. Their parents were trapped inside and unable to get through to the fire escape. The building survived but the 5 alarm fire killed both their parents and a few other people on the same floor.
-Lucas and Rowan were declared wards of the state, and the agent that was taking care of them was unable to find them a proper foster home together. The day that Nicholas and Lisa came to pick him up was the last day that he ever saw Lucas, and they moved to an apartment in Westhaven on the poorer side of town.
-His foster parents showed little interest in him, and day by day he found himself disliking where he lived more and more. Writing was his only escape. He had many notebooks with scribbled writings with stories about his own life twisted into fantasy situations. He often depicted Nicholas as the evil dragon in these stories.
-When he was ten, he came down with a bad case of Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye), but no one found the need to take him to a doctor about it. Even when he was sent home from school he was told to sleep it off. By the time they realized how bad it was, it had already damaged his optic nerves, and by the end of the ordeal he was left blind in that eye.
-He withdrew further after that, becoming more snappy and confrontational with others. He still tries to write even today, but finds it a tiring task nonetheless. He has since tried to run away from home several times, only to be located and brought home. He stays out of the house as often as he can these days, but he can't seem to escape the place. He wasn't so convinced before that anyone would want to adopt him over a cute newborn baby, but now that he's lost his sight, he's even more convinced that nobody will want him.
