New Member's Handbook

It can be a little intimidating joining a new roleplay. There's a lot to take in, a lot to see, and it can sometimes be too overwhelming to know exactly what to do next! That's why this guide has been compiled together, to provide a step-by-step account on a tried and tested method of beginning to roleplay!

The first thing any new member should do is to head on over to the forum and make an introduction post! By this point, there's no doubt a whole bunch of friendly staff and members just waiting to say hello and welcome! You can write whatever you want in your introduction post, but if you're looking for ideas, a small paragraph about yourself and your interests works just fine!

If you haven't already, take time to read They're there for a reason, not to be boring reads, but to help you learn a little more about the roleplay you joined! The and are a must-read!

It's a little bit impossible to participate in a roleplay if you don't have a character! Therefore, it is crucial you have one before you can play. Maybe you've already got a character coming to life in your head, or maybe you need to make a mind map before you're ready to start writing out a profile. Either way, put your thoughts down to paper. Soon enough you'll have a completed character profile, which brings us to the next step!

There are a few little things you need to do before your character is ready to make their debut. After all, is your character living on a park bench? Actually, they can be, if that's where you want them to live! Either way, it's worth checking out the and guide. There, you'll be able to find out all the options available to your character. Do they want to have their own home, or rent a room at the inn? Do they want to run their own business, or try find work as somebody else's employee? That's for you to decide!

After (or before!) you've got living and business arrangements in order, it's time to look at two popular forums - and It's rare that a character doesn't have one of these, because everybody needs somewhere to write down their thoughts, and somewhere to receive mail from their neighbours! You can spend as much time as you want making these, you can put as much or as little detail as you into them, or you can avoid them altogether because they are just an added game mechanic and are completely optional!

You've said hello, made your character, and now it's time to get down to one of the most fun parts of the roleplay - plotting! There are many ways to do this. Some prefer to communicate directly through messages, such as the PM system or Skype. Others like to keep an eye on the ready to jump in and respond the moment a new one is posted! Regardless of how you'd like to do it, having a plot thread is a good idea! It can make things organised and easy to find, not only for others, but also for yourself!

The next part is the reason why you joined the roleplay - to participate. With a character approved, you're free to get started whenever you want! It's up to you how you'd like to bring your character into the roleplay. Festivals and events often make a good choice because there's plenty of people for your character to talk to in just one thread, and they're also a lot of fun! Private, closed threads work well too because you can feel a little more relaxed as you're not tapping at your keyboard rapidly, hoping the festival thread doesn't advance too far before you get chance to respond. And don't forget to check out the as a way to let your partner know when you've posted.

You've done it! From new member to established member, you've got new threads and new friends! You might feel like you've seen all there is to do, but there's a lot more to discover. Whether it's deep, intricate, character back-stories you want to explore, a desire to watch the plot advance, or maybe you've just got your eye set on the highest member rank, the possibilities in the roleplay are endless! So, keep having fun, and keep on typing!

If you've any questions, the staff are always happy to help!
