Skyler Madison
Winter 15th, Year One ֎ Afternoon ֎ Snowing
user posted image

Skyler was in a mischievous mood today. Her 19th birthday had passed and she hadn't received so much as a call from those assholes who called themselves her parents. It was safe to say it was time for her to cause a little mayhem in the Valley.

The meadows were the perfect place for mayhem today. Families were all out enjoying the heavy snow that had blanketed the valley the night before, and continued to fall down on them now. Mothers and fathers helped children build snowmen, or dragged them around on sleds. Some children were making snow angels, while other built igloos and snow forts. It was the perfect picture of the peaceful little town.

And here came Skyler to ruin it all. Bending down, she made a few snowballs at her feet and grabbed one in each hand. The first one she aimed directly for the father adding a carrot nose to his children's snowman. It hit him square in the back of the head. The next she aimed for one of the teenagers building an igloo. This time the snowball hit her target in the back. The teen immediately turned accusingly to his friends and made his own ball to throw at them.

Skyler snickered as she bent down and grabbed two more snowballs. This time she aimed for a couple walking and holding hands. Splat. Splat. One was hit in the side of the face, the other in the shoulder.

It didn't take long for the mayhem to commence. Soon accusations were flying along with snowballs. Everyone was aiming at anyone in sight and Skyler couldn't help but laugh at the madness. It was all just too perfect.

Tag: Lisbeth and Skyler

Considering with what frequency the nightmares were appearing as of late, to be in constant company was something this cop needed. Needed bad. He was off today which was a good start to recovery after a particularly rough bump in the road as of last night. If it was even possible, he needed some human interaction to bring him out of his low, unfortunately there were times where not even Nylah could drag him back to reality. Everything about the dreams just felt so real. He could smell the smoke, he could taste the gritty desert sand in his mouth. Even in his sleep he could still feel the pain of hot metal tearing into his side, just like it was really happening in that moment, over and over again. So, in this state of mind, whatever it was, there was no telling what trouble he would get into left to his own delusions. He was in desperate need for an escape.

Perhaps a day-trip into Ioana would do the trick, at least until his therapist was able to scratch him in for a visit. Even with that, he couldn't go off wandering alone. He was way too likely to find himself in the wrong situation. Drama always seemed to find him. After all, the two people he disliked the most lived in the valley. He was already hanging onto his sanity by a thread, so it wouldn't take much for him to snap. So after much reluctance, he finally decided to groggily roll out of bed, and get a move on to start his day. However, still a buddy would be necessary for this adventure, but who? There wasn't exactly a long line of people pining after a bit of his free time. He wasn't Mr. Popular, especially lately. But. Despite it all, there was one.

Things were no where near perfect between the pair, but this day was somewhat of a decent start. Ender was so relieved when Lisbeth agreed to meet him at the station. She must have sensed the desperation in his voice, because before he could even plead his case and come up with a good excuse to con her into hanging around she had already said yes to spending the day together. Or maybe she just, you know, wanted to? Whatever the case, he was grateful for her compliance.

The train ride into town had been somewhat silent between the two, but he was just happy to have her by his side. He leaned his head on the window, closing his eyes briefly while the hum of the engine vibrated through his whole body. Somehow the clanking and hissing of the train was calming to him, causing him to drift in and out of sleep for the hour ride. Hopefully Lisbeth wouldn't mind, it was just that he hadn't really slept all week due to everything going on inside his mess of a head.

After a while they arrived, stepping off the platform to find a beautiful scene laid out before them. The Valley looked like a Yuletide card. Snow softly fell while children laughed, and others started to roll out the base of what would soon be the picture perfect snowman. Smiling for the first time in what felt like weeks, Ender turned his cheek to face Lisbeth who was still taking it all in. She looked like an angel with her rosy pink cheeks and snow flakes falling and melting against her long red hair. It was the happiest he'd seen her, considering all that had transpired the last few times they'd seen one another. He inhaled the crisp air, exhaling it in a cloudy puff of white. "So uhhh, sorry for falling asleep on you back there. Work has been really crazy. How have you been... with everything?" He didn't exactly want to bring up everything that had happened between them, and also to her but he was trying hard to be open and honest like he'd promised. It was still new, and he still sucked at it.

As they putzed along through the snow chatting, something caught his eye. In the distance people were sledding, and with his sick sense of humor Ender loved to watch the hilarious and inevitable wipe-outs. Without a second thought he grabbed Lisbeth's hand and pulled her along eagerly with him. It was good that he was so focused, because otherwise he would have been embarrassed at his own PDA. Luckily, he was out of uniform so it didn't really matter. "Come on, you know these idiots are going to fall! Let's watch. I know where we can sit and get a good view." He commented in a breathy tone, weaving through the scattered pedestrians. He was on a mission.

They were almost at the top of the hill when it happened. THUD! Landing on his behind, Ender clutched his chest where he'd been hit. "Piss! I've been fucking shot!" The cop screeched in horror. The impact brought him right back into his nightmare. Like an uncoordinated crab, he scuttled for cover behind a tree, leaving Lisbeth to fend for herself.

He patted his jacket where he'd been struck by the projectile. No blood. No pain? Still running his hands over the area while panting and groaning on the ground, the white substance crumbled under the warmth of his touch. Snow?

Aiko didn't have plans. The winter cold had only done so much as force her to buy mittens to cover her tiny pale fingers and a scarf to wrap around the neck that was once so freely exposed in the summer breeze. It felt like it was only yesterday that she'd gone to the beach and spend the whole day diving into the cool waters. Time really flew by., she thought. She pressed her hands against her face and breathed out a puff of warm air. She could see the release of mixing temperatures form a smoke stack in the cold air.

She walked through town without a care nor any expectations. But the cheery sound of chatter and the noise of uplifting commotion brought her senses to a peak. The steps she took closer as her vision widened to the sight of exhilarating joy and snowballs being tossed in mid-air in unconventional projectiles was more than what she needed at the dull moment she had currently placed herself in.

Without any more hesitation, the tongue sticking out on the left side of her dainty naturally pink lips was the slightest, yet most obvious signal of mischief. She hopped in and bit her new mittens, thinking to herself how much it sounds like a cat's name and pulled it out of the grasp of her sweaty palms. She tosses them on the snowy floor and shapes a good sphere one could pass as perfect and looks around to see the target of her next action. She tossed the snowball in a quite fast velocity, hoping to strike decently as a worthy opponent. She excitingly grabbed another heap of snow before noticing a familiar figure in the distance. Mr. Policeman!, her inner voice called out as a smile widened across her cheeks

Running towards her uncannily and unexpectedly discovered friend, she drops the snowball behind her, and easily forgetting about the pair of cotton accessories which previously had wrapped around her warm hands. "Ender?" She asked, peering beside him, gradually realizing he had looked a little bit less composed than usual...

No, Erin! Yield from temptation... You are a composed and well-mannered young man..., his thoughts rambled on. But doesn't it just look so fun? Don't you want to delve deep into this ignorant bliss and enjoy the simple wonders of life? he was beginning to impulsively create figures of tiny Erin's hovering on both left and right shoulders. One with a halo above head and the other with 2 dark red horns sticking out the sides of his head.

Erin cursed under his breath before he closed his eyes and hurriedly stood up from his comfortable position under the tree shade. He pats off the rested pile of snow on his hair and without any more sense of doubt or worry in his mind, relieved the images of the talking voices in his head. There was not only one voice, and it was not his own.

Seemingly innocent, this person who stealthily crawled up behind him to deliver another crushing blow to the rear of his head with a disfigured amount of clustering snow had snickered behind him. Erin grew a smile across his one cheek before turning around to see who he was matched with, along with a snowball releasing from his grip, now moving towards this person he does not know.

(JUST TAG ME IF YOU WANT TO BE THAT SOMEONE :))

Oh, no. Could she have forgotten the most valuable thing in life? What was she doing indoors, writing useless novels as precious time ticked away with nothing but dull and boring words pouring out without any inspiration. As strange as it was, she picked herself up from the piles of work and decided to get ready to go outside. She tossed a scarf around her neck and left her precious household.

The air was crisp, pristine... and without a doubt, cold. Her hair was tucked into the scarf, resulting in a little extra warmth. She didn't look around as she entered the meadows. She hummed as she noticed white figures repeatedly being thrown around in the expanse before her. She didn't take anything of it.

Suddenly, without any warning, THUD goes making her deaf. The impact only hit her from behind the head, but the unexpected - ness of it completely shook her. All balance in her body flew astray. She toppled forward gradually until she flopped on the soft snowy floor. She could only imagine how stupid she had looked as she came into contact with the white floor.

In a moment, she pushed herself up, looking around for a safe place to stand. Somewhere on the corner, she notices an empty area where no one seemed to be throwing anything. Maybe a couple times, but it seemed peaceful. She ran across the field to safety, noticing a young man quite older than she to stand by looking confused. "Are you okay?" She had asked, dusting herself off.

Hannah Summers

Outfit x 15th Winter x Afternoon x Tag: Whomever was hit.

Did Ioana ever know the definition of sun? Hannah hated the cold weather almost as much as she hated the sunny weather. Never pleased, Hannah stared at the cold wonderland that unravelled in front of her very eyes. The snow had settled in heavy heaps all around her. Having already exhausted the entertainment of snow angels and igloos, Hannah found herself at a stalemate. What to do?

Making her way towards the door, Hannah would just have to throw snowballs at a few houses and play knock knock ginger. She had spent most of summer in her sisters home because the heat almost killed her (not literally).
"Be sure to come back before sundown!" Called the voice of her sister.
"Come with me!" Hannah called back.
"I'll pass. Go and have fun!"
"Yeah, yeah." Closing the door behind her, Hannah instantly regretted the choice of leaving the warmth of her sisters home. The cold wind instantly greeted her face and painted her cheeks rosy. Almost like someone had slapped her across the face. That's what it felt like, anyway.

Perhaps if Hannah veered off the open paths and went straight for the wooded area, the snow and cold wouldn't be as much of a bother. Wiping the bits of snow off her coat sleeves in a vain attempt of prevent cold water to snake through, the young teen snaked through the trees. Every step seeming to crunch obnoxiously. If there was hibernating animals, she'd definitely wake them up.

The more she walked, the louder the crunching was. It was almost like the peat-y undergrowth had turned into a mixture of a hard, rocky, sandy terrain that was scattered with leaves and twigs. Snow began to drop down from branches and the bottoms of them had accumulated icicles. Suddenly, out of nowhere a snowdrift fell on top of her and the trees howled like they were laughing. Shaking her head and glaring upward towards the branch that had dumped the snow white hell onto her, Hannah snorted and pulled her hat further down her head.
So much for avoiding the damn snow.

The trees began to appear wider apart and the ground beneath changed from a frozen brown to a lighter, sandy appearance.
The ground soon began to hiss and move ahead and Hannah's eyes widened when she realised she had reached the damn beach.
Turning her head back towards the way she came, she found herself staring at the woodland where little to no leaves clung to the trees. It looked dead, spooky in eerie. Black in contrast to white, yet almost like a pain- Woah.
Let's not think like Kythaela.

Obviously Hannah had been inhaling too many acrylic fumes again.
Her eyes turned ahead once more and Hannah's eyes shifted along the coast.
Where to go from here? Deciding to follow the beach upward, Hannah stuffed her hands into her pockets and listened to the unsettling crunch of snow and sand. It felt gritty even beneath her obnoxious blue boots.

The walk seemed to drag on for ages before Hannah finally saw signs of civilization.
Of course, there wasn't peace around these people.
Hannah's face widened as she watched from afar in absolute awe.
Snowballs flying left, right and centre in the meadows that sat just ahead from the beach.
Tearing her eyes away just enough to see behind her, Hannah compared the lack of people to the clusterfuck of people.

Wow.

Just wow.

Hannah's body itched with excitement and she found herself feeling drawn to the snowball fight like an animal to water or a magnet to its opposite.
With each step, Hannah almost forgot about the cold. In fact each step changed to a quicker pace and her eyes were focused on ahead.
Screw peace, people were in a full on battle.

Now snowball fights was Hannah's forte. Big ones were like heaven to her. The pleasant scream of people as they fell to the ground in a heavy thud of snow and dust caused a shiver to race down her spine. Back in the Oak Hannah went under the name Hard Hannah just because she threw snowballs at an impressive strength. So strong that when they collided with people, they sure as hell hurt. It felt like a stone was inside them. (Okay, maybe Hannah liked to rough house and throw ones with stones in at people she hated, especially a woman who always deemed herself better than the others and some gossiping old bags. I assure you, one of them did recover... eventually)

Ducking down quickly to roll up a snowball - the ice cold sensation of frozen water stinging her hands. Hannah instantly threw it.
She hated snow, loved Snowball fights. Yin and Yang at its finest.
"HEADS UP, SUCKER!" Whoever got hit with that snowball was going to regret even approaching the fight.

It all was clear now. The voice was a female's that yelled "HEADS UP, SUCKER!" just before a snickering. Again, to repeat the previously stated, he had turned around, and without a glance, immediately threw a spherical orb of crystalized water vapor into the air towards the culprit of his befuddlement. "Gotcha right back!", he said as the snowball he had tossed finally struck his opponent's face. He finally got a good look at the face of his attacker. She was a young girl, in her early teens. She had amber eyes that mischievously glowed under the winter sun. Interesting how a simple appearance was something you could easily pick out of a crowd. He smiled as he stepped back to pick up another amount of snow. There wasn't much left to do but try to escape being at the easy disposal of the foe. He quickly turned to feel snowballs hitting him from all directions by different people all over the place. This could just be the most fun he's ever had in a long time.

Just then, he realized he was being repeatedly hit at somehow set intervals. As if a machine were tormenting him mercilessly. He lifted his arms over his head to cover himself from all the havoc around him.

Well...

What did he expect?

He realized he had been in the exact middle of the meadow...

Just as he had enough of being the center of all the hitting, he finally calls out to the young girl he had just struck. He raised his arms in the air and waved them slowly. "I'm getting battered... I say we build forts!" He yelled, getting a heap of snow striking him across the face like a slap by winter's spirits. "Please" He said, his eyesight completely covered as the excess snow fell off his pale skin, leaving tiny particles to rest on his eyelashes.

Odette had come with Elliot to the meadows for the day because the snow had coated Ioana in a blanket, and it was of no surprise to her when they had come to the church wrapped up in scarves and coats and asked her if she wanted to come to the snow covered meadows. Odette wasn't surprised by much anymore, especially not when it came to the Merciers - it was almost a completely commonplace thing that she seemed to go everywhere with Elliot and his son now. They just seemed to make a three person unit.

They had been helping Oliver build a snowman for a while when the snowball fight broke out. Odette didn't really take notice of the original snowball, simply because it didn't affect her, as far as she was aware. It wasn't until snowballs were suddenly flying everywhere and one hit her in the side did she squeak and turn around to see a blur of snow everywhere.

Now, Odette wasn't a fighting person in the slightest. And this kind of situation did not do well for her at all. Odette simply stood by the half-done snowman, small, and even frightened in the sudden blaze of noise and action. This was what she even feared would happen when she came out, a chaotic situation where she didn't feel safe. And this was exactly one of those situations, even though the rational part of her mind was insisting that it was only a snowball fight and that she wasn't going to get hurt. But the rational part of her mind was slowly being pushed to the back because, despite everything, she was scared.

So Odette just sat on the floor behind the snowman, and clapped her arms over her head, and assumed the defensive position of curling up and waiting for it all to be over.

| Ender/Aofie | westhaven police station | winter 15 | um hi |

Lisbeth had actually been somewhat surprised when Ender asked her to meet him at the station and to go to Ioana. Ever since the events of five days previous she had been mulling around at home, almost moping and not knowing what to do with herself or how to deal with herself, so having that invitation come out of nowhere was somewhat of a welcome relief. The snow had been falling hard and fast and it had been sticking, and if she had to be honest, she wanted to get out of the city and into the warmth and peace that was the Valley that she had grown to love so much. So she had gone to the station, wrapped up in a scarf and a pair of mittens tucked in her jacket pocket in case it did get too cold, and waited.

The train journey was less than eventful, and even though Lisbeth didn't drift off into sleep, she did watch Ender fall asleep, and for the majority of the way there just examined his sleeping face. It always looked troubled, even in sleep, and she supposed there was certainly no rest for the weary. The journey seemed to pass way too slowly for her liking, but she was greeted by the pleasurable scene of snow coating absolutely everything when they arrived, and even she was excited to be able to get out and run around and forget everything that had happened in the last few weeks.

She glanced to him when he asked, while walking along, and she shrugged. "Fine, I guess. I don't really know how to handle it," she answered quietly. She wasn't about to tell him that she had been having nightmares every other night. She wasn't about to have him worrying about her more than he probably, already did.

But then he had grabbed her hand and pulled her along, and she just stared at their hands in surprise as he chattered to her about how they were going to fall and how he knew where the best spot to watch was, and she couldn't help but giggle. Carefree. Happy. It was almost a normal scene in a life that was anything but, and she was happy that she was here.

And then moments later, Ender was screeching about being shot, and she had seen the snowball - she knew he hadn't been shot - but he had run off and then she was left by herself when what seemed like a snowball war started. And Lisbeth wasn't about to let herself get smacked about by snow. She even momentarily forgot about Ender as she picked up her own snow, forgetting to put her gloves on, and launched it at the nearest person with ammunition.

"I ain't about to lose a fucking war!" she screamed, starting to gather up her own snow and build a fort at the same time, launching snow at whoever came anywhere near her. She'd find Ender later.

Elliot A. Mercier
THURSDAY WINTER 15, YEAR ONE • AFTERNOON • SNOWY
"A cute little snowman had a carrot nose..."
[ TAG - Estree, Odette, open ]

They’d built the perfect snowman together, but the serenity they’d shared didn’t last for much longer. As Elliot began to gently embed the carrot into the snowman’s head whilst Oliver cuddled his new snow friend, a snowball made a direct hit on his head. The thrower had excellent aim. The next thing he knew, Elliot was standing, still dazed as he rubbed the back of his head, and watching as an army of snowballs took flight.

“Oh no…”
he mumbled. A worried and hurried glance down at Oliver yielded relief. His son was still hugging the snowman, eyes closed, arms relentless, and he had yet to realise there was even a war going on, let alone to be taken as a victim of it.

“Are you okay?”
a voice asked, and Elliot looked back up to find himself face-to-face with a young woman. He gave a nod.

“I’m okay, thank you. Are you okay?”
he asked, noting how snow covered her. That couldn’t have felt nice.

Meanwhile, there was only so long Oliver could hold on to a mound of snow before it began to melt. The first bits of cold water tricked through his mittens, and the cold jerked his eyes open.

“’Ette?”
he piped up, seeing his daddy but not his swan princess.

“’Ette?”
he said again, and then Oliver moved a little to the right and saw pink hair. “’Ette!”

“What wrong?”
he asked, nestling himself onto her lap and wrapping his own arms around her. She felt much nicer than a cold snowman.

Peeking out from behind the tree, he could see that Lisbeth was going absolutely mad with vengeance. So much for a therapeutic day out to clear his head. At least he had established it was in fact snow that had hit him, not the bullet in which he often dreamed of. Even from his spot behind the tree he could see the blurs of white zooming in all directions. A war indeed. What did these people know about war?

He watched with wide eyes as his red haired companion started to pile up snow into a mound. He wanted to help but, there was no way in hell he was going to stand out in the field like fair game. That was just asked to get wailed on.

Now that so many people were involved and running about, it was impossible to tell which had been the one who started it all. It was absolute chaos out there. People were screaming, snow was flying, and sleds were being used as shields. Okay. Maybe the screaming was more laughter than anything else. Ender was the only one who had shrieked like a baby pig being murdered. "Ender?" From his spot on the ground, he lifted his gaze to meet the curious voice calling to him. "Aiko." he smiled, forgetting for a moment that he was supposed to be hidden. When he realized what was happening, his panic quickly returned. "Aiko! Wait. Come over here, get down! You're going to get hit." the cop pleaded with puppy dog eyes, gesturing for her to sit beside him. "Don't worry... I'll keep you safe. This isn't a good base, we need a new one. They're closing in. Maybe I should cause a distraction..." He grumbled thinking out loud.

It may have been fun and games for everyone in the area, but to this ex soldier, it really was just like being back on the battlefield.

Now, it wasn't just the pleading in his eyes, but even the words that came out of his mouth were different. She blinked twice blankly before quickly sitting beside him, hugging herself to provide warmth. She looked up at him, trying to listen intently and make out the words he was mumbling. There were a lot of strategical methods that escaped his soft breath. Every huff he said created a tiny puff of white smoke in the air.

"I'll keep you safe" was one of the things she had heard. A slim smile formed her lips as she thought about how being protected never felt so alarmingly urgent. "This isn't a good base, we need a new one. They're closing in. Maybe I should cause a distraction..." he grumbled. Was he planning to go into war? Because somehow, in hindsight, it could be a little of an asset. She wasn't completely sure whether he had been serious, or just too involved in the game. Either way, she didn't take it as anything too serious. She would have asked if he was alright, but she shook it off, trying to keep the mood consistent.

"If we can build a fort, our defense would be much better. What do you think?" She asked. "Maybe we can run across the field to that spot over there. It looks... Safe" She said, trying to sound convicted by her own words when in truth she would have honestly preferred to be in the middle of all the chaos and storms of snowballs.

She looked back up at Ender and sincerely asked herself. Is he really okay?

Her coat which was previously a shade of grey had completely been covered by a layer of a white snow coat. Her hair was messy and the strands seemed to be massacred by clinging icy particles. She stared at her shoes as she adjusted her toes, wondering why she could no longer feel them. She put her hands together and rubbed them, looking back up at the man before her.

“I’m okay, thank you. Are you okay?”

She thought to herself about what she felt. She hadn't realized if she had been in decent condition. She gulped before exhaling, watching the air in her vision turn white with small fog. "Cold..." was all that escaped her mouth from all the words she had formulated initially in her head. The nervousness in her fickle mind suddenly leapt to a high point. Words just would go together anymore.

She looked over to the right, seeing a young boy in his child years, wondering how she couldn't have noticed him the first time. The little boy ran from his now disfigured snowman to another lady with bright salmon hair. Her mind tried to put the pieces together. With the worry in his eyes, she concluded the boy was his. But the lady had to obviously be the mother. She turned her gaze to him and tried to ask.

"Your family?" She asked, pointing at the young boy who trembled in the arms of another.

Elliot A. Mercier
THURSDAY WINTER 15, YEAR ONE • AFTERNOON • SNOWY
"A cute little snowman had a carrot nose..."
[ TAG - Estree, Odette, open ]

She certainly looked cold. Her grey coat featured new shades – white from where snow still clung, and dark grey from where meltwater had seeped through. It was chilly outside, chilly enough that snow could fall and settle on the ground, and wisps of warm air swirled out of her mouth as she breathed.

“Your family?”
she asked, just as Elliot began to unbutton his thick coat.

He nodded, paused, and then clarified. “My son, and my friend.”

“Here,” he said, shrugging off the coat and offering it out to her. “You might catch a cold if you wear your jacket. It’ll soak right through to your skin.”

Elliot was warm, anyway. He was used to wearing plenty of layers in his own home, where he didn’t have the money to heat it. He had on a thick t-shirt, a woolly jumper, a scarf, a pair of gloves, and a hat. The warmth they held would last him at least the walk home. Elliot didn’t intend to stay out much longer, not in a snowball fight that was getting far too heated.

Estree's eyes veered over to the pair by the snowy floor and nodded. 'Not the mother, then...' she thought, 'I wonder where she is'

She looked over at him as he handed out his jacket. She was just a pinch confused. No one had ever offered their jacket before. In fact, she wouldn't have known that he was offering it to her until he had clarified it himself. She slowly reached out for the coat and both her hands as she accepted it gently. She bowed slightly in respect and bit both her lips.

"Thank you..." She whispered, loud enough for both of them to hear, but soft enough for him to possibly think twice about what she had said. Quickly, her mind shuffled to do something to add, realizing how it might have not been enough a display of her gratitude. "very... much" she continued, this time, more clearly. She breathed in the cold air as she slung his jacket over herself and began putting on the sleeves. From the moment she had lifted the jacket, she could already feel warmth seeping from the inside recognizing the touch of another. Some of his body heat (and even a little of his scent) rubbed off on the cotton on the jacket's interior.

She buttoned the jacket to fasten it and let her arms loose, the jacket's sleeves long enough to show only the tips of her fingers (in mittens, of course). She smiled softly at him as she instantly felt the comfort of warmth. 'I hope HE doesn't get cold'

Thwomp! Her snowball splattered into a bomb of white droplets that scattered everywhere on the person she had hit. A look of satisfaction crawled across her face. Oh, he could possibly be feeling that in the morning.

The man she had used as a target turned around to see her and the young girl watched him with a glare, lips painted in a smirk. That smirk only stayed there briefly and like aquaphobic paint, fell off her face as she was hit smack dab in the face.
"You son of a --" Angered, the girl shook her head; face stinging red. Wiping her face frantically, the girl curled her hands into fists and stamped on the snow just to compact it.

Ducking down swiftly, the girl formed a snow ball and instantly threw it back in a vain attempt of regaining dignity and face. The man stood there like a sitting duck and Hannah faltered from her pleasant corner while being purely entertained as snowballs honed in on him like missiles. Serves you right!
"Chicken!" Wasn't fun if her snowballs didn't touch him. He was ducking away from them and looking at her.

"Grow some and face the snow head on! What are you!? A man or a sissy!?" Hannah could out at the top of her lungs. "I'D SAY A SISSY!" She practically screamed.
"I'm getting battered... I say we build forts!"
"WHY!?" Hannah called out. "FORTS ARE BORING!" She wasn't going to build them in the firing zone. "PLAY LIKE A MAN!" Watching a snowball hit him from the side of his head, Hannah instantly recoiled into laughter. That had to be the funniest thing she had seen. He had been so focused on her he missed the snowball and ended up getting it! Oh the hilarity.

"Please" Hannah clutched onto her scarf and sighed. His voice was pleading and no way could she turn it down.
"Fine!" Hannah responded in a shout. "You owe me!" With a fell swoop, Hannah pulled her scarf up over her nose and pulled the back of it over her head. Moving swiftly through the cluster of snowballs with an awkward gait, Hannah's eyes danced across the field.

Thwomp.

Thwomp thwomp th-th-thwomp!

A barrage of snowballs hit her and caused her to stagger. Geez people!
Finally arriving over at the man, Hannah glared down at him with a look of defiance.
"Yeah. What now?" Hannah scoffed. "I'm here now." Ducking down, Hannah began to pull at some snow. "This fort won't build itself you slow dolt."

Odette didn't even look up to see Elliot talking to another woman, didn't have the chance to get embarassed about the fact that the said girl had suggested that they were all family, that she was Oliver's mother - she was too busy being terrified by the current situation and hating the fact that what she had been enjoying at erupted into this. She was probably embarrassing Elliot a lot right now. Her being her usual cowardly self and not being able to enjoy the situation that had unfolded. If it had just been the three of them, she would have been fine. But this was a lot of people. It was terrifying.

But she had a smaller warmth suddenly burrowing into her side, and Odette tentatively opened her eyes to find Oliver had plonked himself on her lap and was giving her a hug. So she removed her hands from her ears and instead wrapped them around Oliver protectively.

No wonder people thought that she was his mother.

"It's okay, Oliver," she murmured softly, mainly audible just to him. "'Ette's just a little frightened, that's all."

| Ender/Aofie | winter meadows | winter 15 | um hi |

If anything, Lisbeth had absolutely had no idea what she was doing, instead just launching snowballs where she could and trying to build herself a protective wall around her so that she could launch snowballs from a secluded area. Now that she thought about it, she probably could have done with Ender's help, but he had run off and when she turned around to find him through the flurry of flying snow, he had managed to pick up what looked like a small child to protect. No fucking wonder he had run off. She had had to defend herself, pretty much. This was going to be hilarious.

"Oi, Ender," she shrieked at him from where she was standing, throwing herself to the floor to try and build herself a snow cylinder for a fort. "Come and give us a hand! Oi!" She had absolutely no idea either what was going on in his head right now, but she was more distracted by trying to protect herself and not get hit in the face. The clothing she was wearing that was supposed to keep herself warm was completely useless now. It was utterly soaked in melted snow, so Lisbeth simply flung her coat off and used it as a makeshift shield as she began to build.

She bloody hoped Ender might come and give her a hand. This would not be an easy one person job.

"If we can build a fort, our defense would be much better. What do you think?" He nodded firmly, eyes scanning for a safer area to begin their snowy fortress. While he was plotting, Aiko beat him to the punch. "Maybe we can run across the field to that spot over there. It looks... Safe" He followed her gesture to a spot across the way. Past the zooming white projectiles and bustling bodies he could see what she was going on about. Just across the field was a quiet area, where no one had seemed to notice in all the commotion. It wouldn’t be easy, but if they were quick perhaps they could make it unscathed. With a proud smile, Ender patted the young soldiers shoulder. “Good eyes Private Aiko… nice work. Okay on my count we run. I will cover you, so don’t look back, just go.” Once again he gave her a reassuring tap on her jacket. Just as he was about to start his countdown, he heard his former companies voice call out. "Oi, Ender," Twisting his neck around in all directions, he caught a glimpse of his red headed companion scuffling around in attempts to build up a makeshift base. Great minds think alike. He watched as she quickly piled up snow the best she could while watching her own back.

Now what? He couldn’t leave either one of his allies hanging. Lisbeth would be a valuable asset. She was strong, brave, and never backed down from a fight. It would be stupid for him to leave her out for fodder when he’d only recently made amends. And on the other hand, he had vowed to protect Aiko, and that wasn’t a promise he was willing to break. "Come and give us a hand! Oi!" She called out again, ducking and dodging as icy balls of white whizzed past. As if he wasn't already torn, watching her peel off her coat and use it as a shield was the icing on the cake. "Idiot! Put your jacket back on, you're going to freeze!" He squawked, almost absently stepping off into the line of fire. This wasn't a good time for his usual lecturing. Reluctantly he sank back down into the snow, turning to Aiko to conjure up a new plan. "Okay... you see that crazy woman over there." He asked pointing to Lisbeth who was still using her coat to fend off the enemy. "On my count now... we go there. The plans stay the same. I cover you, you push through. Got it?" He knew the young girl was probably baffled by his last minute change of direction, but when it came to Ender and Lisbeth things rarely ever did make sense.

"1... 2... 3!" Sending Aiko off first he rolled and dodged behind her taking on all her intended hits as well as his own. By the time the pair made it to where Lisbeth was stationed the cop wasn't sure how many times he'd been whacked with a snowball. After a while each strike felt numb as they blended together against his back and shoulders. Shaking off the excess snow and unzipping his coat to hand to Lisbeth, he shook it at her firmly. "Put it on. Now."
