The Firefly Festival is one that has been around since the founding of the valley. Lanterns would be placed in the river near Nivalis Lake to represent the souls of those who had passed in the valley. Usually those who would do so are those who were loved ones of the deceased. Others soon began to see the festival in a more romantic perspective, seeing it a time to stop and appreciate the people they had in their lives, whether it be their partner or close friends. Eventually the festival was celebrated town-wide, with the whole community gathering by the river to participate.

Since the decline of Ioana and with festivals defunded, the Firefly festival has changed once again. It is still celebrated, but now it is done individually. Those who wish to celebrate it strictly to remember their lost ones still celebrate by the river. Couples tend to go off in the meadows to find a private spot to picnic and reminisce.

This year the city wants to make the festival a community wide event once again. Down at the river there a few booths that are selling miscellaneous supplies for the event from food to lanterns for the river. The booths surround a grass covered area that was set aside for villagers to come and spend time with their loved ones. Some spend the evening enjoying a picnic, others sit by the river and reminisce on the memories that they have shared with others.

[Pocomoke is running this event! Please direct anything Firefly Festival related to her, thank you!]

{Summer 29: Warm Sunday Evening}

Tonight was the night and oh my goddess did Aisling feel nervous. It was a date, an actual date, well to her at least. A date where the man would show up and want her there. Even though Ethan had seen her makeup-less and not so great looking clothing, she still wanted to look beautiful. Seeing they would be meeting there, it gave her time actually to do her hair, dress nicely, and shave her legs, not like anything past kissing and holding hands would happen. Not yet, at least. Ahem.

Aisling had done her hair in soft, neat curls and pinned a few strands back in twists with a few bobby pins. This wasn't the first time she had dressed up of course, but it was still a casual look, especially compared to the Gala outfit. She probably looked pretty girly in the pink cardigan and floral dress, but it was nearing the end of Summer, and she was meeting up with a hot guy. Plus, sexy, tight fitting clothing wasn’t her thing.

After making sure her outfit was right, Aisling headed downstairs. She had made and packed dinner earlier in the day so she could relax a bit. Dinner wasn’t anything super special, but it was still food that they could enjoy, and it wouldn’t go bad. Aisling had made some pasta salad, a spinach and feta frittata, Caprese salad, and grilled lemon chicken kabobs served with a yogurt sauce and rice pilaf. For drinks, she had water, iced tea, beer and a bottle of champagne her father somehow snuck in there. It looked like there was a lot of food, but Aisling didn’t know how long they’d be there.

Berkley, Clover, and Dublin wagged their tails in excitement as they panted and sat down. Berkley would make sure Aisling and Ethan would be all cuddly tonight like it was his last mission. Even though he was a dog, he was a smart dog and knew that sometimes Aisling and Ethan needed a little nudge.

Once she knew she had everything, Aisling packed up the bed of the truck with the food for the humans and dogs, some candle lanterns, blankets, and pillows. The dogs jumped into the back of the truck and howled in excitement. Crevan watched on carefully, his heart pounding. His little girl was going on an actual date. Sheamus had patted his son’s shoulder before he walked over to Aisling to give her a hug and share a few words. ”Be safe. I love you and have a good time, okay?”

”I will. I love you too, grampy!” she smiled, before getting into the driver’s seat. Aisling gave her father and grandfather a wave before she backed out of the driveway.

AT THE MEADOW || 7:30PM

She parked in a spot that overlooked the lake and Aisling just examined all the families, couples, singles and groups of friends that began to fill in the areas of the meadow. Back in the day, finding a spot was impossible. Now, there was so much space that sometimes people wondered if there was anyone else.

Aisling got out of the truck, placed the tailgate down. The dogs jumped out so their owner could set up the bed for her date. She lay some of the blankets down, the fluffiest at the bottom. Fluffed the pillows and placed them near the back and a few on the sides. Human food remained in the cooler until Ethan showed up. Aisling fed the dogs and lit a few of the lanterns she hung off the sides of the truck.

Getting comfy, she slouched a bit into the pillows and looked up at the night stars. Tonight was indeed going to be a good night.

OOC: I hope you don't mind

Wyn had heard about the festival from someone and had decided, that it was the perfect opportunity to take Susanna on a date. Okay so they were already going out, but work had prevented them from going on any dates. He hadn't told Susanna yet what he had planned, planning on it just being a surprise. Memories of a conversation he had had a while back with her plagued his mind, as he remembered her requesting they visitthe vvalley the earliest chance they had. Today was the perfect day to honor that request.

All he planned on doing was asking her to go on a picnic, knowing she wouldn't think much of it. It wasn't like they never went on picnics, they went on a picnic every chance they could. So that his girlfriend didn't walk in on him making preparations, he had told her he needed to get caught up on a bit of paperwork. It wasn't a rare occurrence for him to bring home some paperwork, but he had gotten done with it hours ago. He didn't like lying to Susanna, but he wanted everything to be perfect.

Smiling he finished packing the layered Italian crescent rings and cold cuts he had made and got to work on making a pitcher of lemonade. Soon enough, he was done with that as well. "I'm done doing paperwork, how about we go on a picnic," he called out to her. He had no doubt in his mind, that she would agree to go. Closing the flap to the picnic basket, he waited for his girlfriend to make an appearance.

Dani wasn't really sure what she wanted to do during the festival. She didn't really have anyone to go with, and anyone who would go with her she was afraid to ask. The first people to pop into her mind were Kythaela and Gavin, but the last time all three of them talked it had been awkward. Things hadn't ended poorly, but she had wished that they had ended better. It had just been a misunderstanding after all.

The girl wasn't sure why, but she was conflicted as to whether or not she should stay in the valley. It was a nice and quiet place, and the shop was going great, but she was just missing something. She didn't know if it was that she needed to settle down or if she needed to get up and leave again. Dani had never been good at reading the signs that her heart was giving her, so usually she just ignored it and acted irrationally until she could figure it out.

Since she didn't have anyone to share the evening with or someone to mourn, she instead decided to focus on figuring this out. If she was going to leave, she had to figure that out soon so she could take care of the shop and her home. The shop she would probanly leave to Kythaela and she would have to find someone to sell her home too or just keep it and make payments until she decided to come back.

Summer 30th
Ella had a picnic basket ready to take with her, she had sent Riley an invitation but they never replied to her letters, they were evil to her like that, but, she liked them either way. She knew it was a romantic festival but it could also be nothing more than a friendly picnic.

Ella left the house, she seriously hopped that Riley would go meet her, last time she waited for them they didn’t show up and then she ended up drunk at their doorstep. It was a lovely night, and a lovely morning, although she has a slight feeling that they are still upset with her, considering everything she did wake them up at 3am in the morning.

Ella arrived to the location and looked around trying to find her friend; in case she would she would need to find someone else to share the meal she brought.

    Summer 29th
Susanna has been working in the morning and they given her the rest of the day for her to do whatever she wanted to do; Susanna decided to take that time to study a little before proposing to go out with Aldwyn, maybe a casual date with him would be good.

Susanna looked at Aldwyn when he spoke. A picnic sounded like a lovely idea, he had remembered that she wanted to go on a picnic with him- ”Oh that sounds lovely.” Susanna said getting up from the chair before smiling at Alwyn.

”Where are we going?” she asked him approaching him to land a kiss on his cheek. It was a bit late to go on a picnic but it was summer, she was sure they could watch the sunset someplace in the city.

Ethan Salvatore
We must all make our choices. I have seen two paths and made another in between.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Ethan had never felt this nervous before. Never in his twenty seven years of life did he feel like his entire life balanced on how this single night worked out. Standing nude in front of his mirror, well not exactly nude, just in his linen blue briefs he tried to figure out what to do with his appearance. His hair was messy and shaggy but could he make it look better? Did Aisling think he looked good like this?

“This is why I don’t date,” he thought miserably running his fingers through his hair.

Deciding his best option was his typical look he ran his hands through the gel and began to style his hair properly. Now he just had to find appropriate clothing. But…what was that? Did she expect the first date to be formal? Did she figured he’d show up looking like some cowboy?

“Have I ever shown up looking like a cowboy?” he thought, snickering a little.

Moving to the closet he began rummaging through his clothes just as a small fur ball began playing with his feet. Glancing down at his new dog, a small Husky Puppy he’d bought only a few weeks back he smiled. The Puppy was still young and so tiny but he was thrilled he bought it. Kneeling down he rubbed the puppy’s head and began to play for short while, hearing the excited yips from the small animal.

“Awe Bo you know I’d take you with me if I could,” he said. “But you’re too little and you’d cause trouble. I know you would. Now,” he said picking up the dog in his hands and pressing a kiss on its head, the little tail wagging a mile a minute. “Let me get dressed.”

Placing the puppy down again Bo, officially named Boreas Salvatore, scampered under the bed yipping some more as he sought out one of his chew toys. Ethan finally settled on clothing that he figured would be suitable for the night. It wasn’t formal but it wasn’t casual enough to be considered lazy or sloppy. Pulling on the board style, camo shorts he did up the dome and zipped them up before sliding a blue linen shirt over his shoulders. Leaving it unbuttoned for now he sprayed himself with a body spray and cologne that made him smell like an evergreen forest before doing up the buttons, leaving many at the top of the shirt undone. He pulled on a thick, brown leather bracelet and a silver watch before slipping his black shades on his face. The sun was still out so he’d need them. Plus let’s face it, he looked cool with shades on his face.

Slipping on his brown sandals he grabbed his keys and wallet with his usual items inside. He didn’t expect Aisling would let him have access to that just yet but…she’d surprised him before so he felt better being prepared. Bo scampered to the door wagging his tail, ready for a walk again and Ethan laughed. Scooping the puppy into his arms he made his way to the backyard where the dog house was. He wasn’t going to let Bo stay in there but when he was away he had no way of knowing if Bo would start ruining the house or not. Especially since he was so young. Ethan looked down into those wide blue eyes and sighed.

“I know buddy you wanna come to but…” he said, sighing.

He knew he would either annoy Aisling’s dogs or just cause general mischief. Yet, maybe leaving Bo alone wasn’t the smartest idea. After all they were supposed to be bonding right? Plus he left him alone a lot when he went to work.

“You better behave,” he finally said in a baby voice as the dog yipped at him.

Locking the door behind him he placed Bo on the passenger side of the truck before getting into the driver’s seat. Bo, instinctively, went to the window and began looking outside. Ethan laughed as he started the truck.

“Give it a couple of months buddy then I’ll let you stick your head out the window,” he said.

Ethan parked the truck and grabbed the leash from the backseat. He wouldn’t use it until he was sitting down so he scooped Bo up once again and got out, locking the truck and then heading to the upper area where Aisling had said she’d be. Sure enough there she was with Berkley, Clover and Dublin with her as well. Ever the intimidating ball of fluff he was Bo started yipping.

“Hush,” Ethan said before stopping in front of Aisling.

He couldn’t sign since he had a puppy in his hands but he could do something else. Before she had a chance to say anything he leaned forward and kissed her. Nothing to intimate just soft, gentle yet exploratory. He was testing his boundaries so to speak. He pulled away and grinned.

“You look beautiful,” he spoke, hoping she could read his lips.

Placing Bo down on the ground he attached the leash to his collar and held it firmly in his hand as the puppy yipped then ran behind Ethan’s legs when the other dogs looked at him.

{Summer 29: Warm Sunday Evening}

A whiff of pine tickled her nose and Aisling turned to see Ethan approach her with Bo, his new little puppy he purchased during their trip to the city. The little dog shivered in his owner’s arms. Berkley tilted his head but remained calm. Dublin and Clover were a bit curious and walked over to sniff just a bit but backed off and rested their heads on the tail of the truck, wanting some of the good chicken Aisling cooked earlier.

Words would’ve escaped her lips, but Ethan stopped her from doing so with a gentle kiss. He pulled away and gave her a smile. ”You look beautiful.”

”Thank you. You’re looking dashing as always,” she responded as Ethan leashed Bo. Poor Bo was a puppy who was so small compared to her dogs. Berkley walked over but, lay down so he was somewhat eye level to the little pup. His nose twitched, and his tail wagged but didn’t move that much. If anything, he was behaving so he could get some nice little treats.

”I might have to fight off the jealous singles to show my dominance,” she snickered, running her fingers through his hair. Aisling rested her hands on his muscular shoulders and slid off the tail of the truck. She had adjusted the skirt of her dress before she gave him another kiss. Ethan did indeed look good, but he always did. Always stylish and sexy and she hoped she looked just as well standing next to him. The young woman was aware at the attention he received from the female sex but too bad for them. He was with her, and that made her happy.

Her fingers returned to his full head of hair and ruffled the strands. His hair was smooth to the touch, and she could feel it for days, but she stopped and moved her hands back to his shoulders. ”Are you hungry right now or do you want to walk the dogs for a bit?” she asked. Berkley, Dublin and Clover perked their ears up when they heard the W word. They wagged their tails and panted in excitement.

Wyn waited for his girlfriend to accept his invitation. While he had supposedly been doing paperwork, she had been busy doing work of her own. He just hoped his girlfriend would be pleased with what he had planned for them to do. ”Oh that sounds lovely.” The sound of his girlfriend's voice roused him from his thoughts, and he he gave her a small smile. He was pleased that Susanna had accepted his invitation, not that he thought she would have turned him down. His smile grew when she came over and planted a kiss on his cheek.

"Let's get going than," he told her, as he grabbed everything that was needed for the picnic. He figured she would soon ask where they were going; since, it was pretty late. ”Where are we going?” They had just reached the door, when he her voice the question he had been expecting. Smiling, he managed to change the way he was holding the stuff; so that, he could open the door. He let her pass through the door before him, before following her out the door, closing the door behind them, making sure it looked. He still had his keys in his ppocket; since, he had forgotten to take them out earlier.

Only when they were outside, did he answer his girlfriend's question. "It's a surprise," he said mysteriously. Refusing to say anything else until they reached their destination, he took the lead.

~A Little While Later~

It take take them to long to which the Valley, and he could tell Susanna was confused and surprised as to why they were in the Valley at night. They had talked about coming here when they both had the day off, but they had talked more about spending the day here, not coming here at night. Once they had reached the meadow, he turned towards Susanna. "Today is the firefly festival, some people in the city was talking about it, so I decided to bring you hear as a surprise."

After having said that, he put all their picnic stuff down. He spread out the blanket out before laying everything out. "You're not mad are you?" he asked at least. He rarely kept things from Susanna, even if he was trying to surprise her.

Riley rushed down to the area where the Firefly Festival was going to be held. They knew that they were supposed to be meeting Ella there, but they had forgotten when or where. They couldn't even remember if they had responded with a letter or not. Hopefully it all worked out in the end.

Once they got into the area they spotted their friend. Luckily she didn't spot them, and they smirked as they snuck up behind her, placing hands over her eyes to blind her for a moment.

"Guess who~" Riley sang with a smile.

Ella was starting to get impatient, waiting wasn’t a quality she had, she hated being late and she hated when people were late to meet her. She looked at her watch and crossed her arms. Riley knew how she gets when they are late, lucky for her they don’t really get upset with her for whining about it.

Ella decided to wait a few more minutes, although, she felt someone’s hands on her eyes, she was about to kick whoever was doing that to her but she remembers that touch, the softness of the hands, it was Riley. Ella smirked and put her hands over her friend’s hands.

”Hmm…I wonder who it is, but I bet this person owes me a kiss.” she said playfully pointing to her cheek with one of the hands.

Susanna was confused about everything, what was Wyn hiding from her? They got out of the apartment and went to the valley. She was excited, curious and confused at the same time.

We must all make our choices. I have seen two paths and made another in between.

Snickered at her actions but responded when she kissed him again, letting his lips move gently with hers. It wasn’t an odd sensation for him, she wasn’t the first girl he’d ever kissed but she was the first girl he’d met up with more than once or twice. One hand held Boreas tightly while the other gripped her hip bringing her closer to his body. It was slightly awkward given his height over hers but he didn’t complain. He also didn’t miss the way she played with his hair. It was a good mental note to keep for later.

“There won’t be any jealous singles,” he signed. “So I wouldn’t worry too much about it.”

The thing about Ethan was he did have a slight naïve streak to him. Kaitlyn had been attempting to get his attention not just for sex of course. She wanted to tame him, make him hers. A few of the women in Westhaven had also set that as their goals and now Aisling had come along, a fresh faced, barely legal girl who had done what these women couldn’t. Yes Aisling had a lot of jealousy to worry about.

“You shouldn’t keep teasing me Aisling,” he whispered, his hands moving slowly with his words. “It’s not fair.”

He grinned and kissed her again, letting his tongue touch her lower lips gently begging for her to let him in but at the same time also leaving a lingering sign of things to come eventually. He pulled away again and glance down at the now excited dogs and nodded.

“Bo will need another run tonight when I get hone to tucker him out otherwise I’ll be up all night,” he signed to her.

Ethan’s exercise routine had altered drastically in the last few days since owning the puppy. He was now out running every day at least three times giving Bo all the exercise he could. This new regime had shifted Ethan’s dietary needs and now he was eating more frequently. Not only that but Ethan’s body was more lithe than before, instead of packing on muscle he was working on his speed.

Aldwyn continued to hold his girlfriend's hand, as he watched her reaction. He had noticed that on the way to the meadow, she had been both curious and confused. After explaining his reason for bringing her here, he continued to watch her reaction. Seeing no anger in her expression, he was relieved, but he still had to ask her if she was mad. He highly doubted she was mad, but it was always good, to make sure.

”Oh…no…I’m not mad…” Hearing her comment, he smiled. If she was happy, so was he. The young man's smile only grew when she kissed his cheek. "Well I'm happy, you're happy," he told her. It was extremely rare for them to day anything romantic, and they usually tried to add a little romance to their lives when they both had the day off.

”You remembered.”

"Of course I did, I was just looking for the perfect opportunity to bring you to the Valley. I just wanted it to be special," he told her, pressing his lips gently against hers. Than he moved back giving Susanna a small smile. "I love you, Susanna. I'm glad we get to spend such a lovely night together in the Valley." He loved spending time with Susanna, but it could be hard finding time to spend together. "Anyway, do you want to eat now or wait a bit?"

James usually didn't come to festivals; since, he wasn't a big fan of festivals. However, he had been restless most of the day, so he had decided to attend the festival. He could remember attending this festival many years ago but that had been back before his father had died. He couldn't exactly remember when all the festivals had originally come to an end but everyone seemed happy to have them back. James couldn't say he cared either way, he usually just tried to keep to himself.

Arriving in the meadow, he quickly let his gaze dart over the meadow. There was some people already in the meadow, most of them appeared to be couples. Seeing up these couples made his heart ache, as memories of him and Cecilia filled his mind. Gritting his teeth, he quickly let his gaze drop to the ground and continued on his way down to the river. He really didn't want to be bothered but on the off chance that he was bothered, he kept his emotions hidden from view.

{Summer 29: Warm Sunday Evening}

No jealous singles? His comment made her lift an eyebrow and she just laughed. Her eyes scanned for a bit, and there were already a few women looking, staring at whatever they could take a quick glimpse of, probably his ass. Ethan had a fine fucking ass.

Aisling couldn’t help but laugh again when he mentioned that she should stop teasing him. She would’ve responded, but he silenced her with a kiss once more, this kiss was more playful. Ethan had pressed his tongue onto her bottom lip but pulled away before she could react again. Her, the teasing one? PUH-LEASE! But, Aisling would see how the night would end up. Who knows, maybe she would French him later on amongst other things. ”And you think I’m teasing? You’re not any better mister,” she smirked.

The dogs barked, tails continuing to wag in excitement. Dublin and Clover pointed their heads towards the direction they wanted to go. Berkley went into the back of the truck and fished out his leash. He did fine off of it, but he had a plan. It involved scaring Bo, but nothing that would scar him. More so, chase him around the legs of the humans and pull a 101 Dalmatians trick. Berkley seemed to snicker to himself as he sat down by Aisling’s legs, leash in mouth.

”Running huh? I’m surprised he can even keep up!” Bo was just so small, he was just a fluff ball with little nubs and yipped at anything that scared him. Aisling crouched down and leashed Berkley. She turned her attention to Bo, who was still hiding behind Ethan’s left leg. ”Awe, you poor thing. They won’t hurt you, I promise. Try to keep up!” she grinned, giving him a small scratch behind his ears. Bo nuzzled into her hand for a second before Aisling stood up again.

She walked to the door of her truck and grabbed her personal belongings. She doubted anyone would want to steal her purse, but it was better to be safe than sorry. Aisling locked the doors, put the tail back up and turned blew out the candle lanterns.

”I wonder if people are preparing their candles and lanterns to send to their loved ones. That’ll probably be later seeing it's still a bit light out. The meadow used to be packed with people but now it’s dwindled...” Aisling frowned. It was sad indeed to see how the Valley’s population dropped so drastically.

Berkley tugged on his leash, and Dublin and Clover began walking slowly ahead. ”Alright. alright! You all are in such a rush!” Her body began moving forward as she held onto Berkely’s leash. His tail wagged as he continued to think out his plan.

”Hmm…I wonder who it is, but I bet this person owes me a kiss.” Ella responded to their statement. Riley smirked as they leaned over and gave her a kiss on the cheek. They finally released the girl's eyes and stepped in front of her with a smile.

"I guess I did after I forgot to respond to you. I will make that up to you today." Riley told her. They held up the basket that they were carrying so that Ella could see it.

"Why don't we find a spot to picnic before they start the lantern lighting? You can pick it." Riley suggested. The Firefly Festival was always one of their favorites, as it was one of the more calmer festivals. Plus, they had made some great treats for them and their friend to share.

Summer 30th
Riley gave Ella a kiss and she smiled. They were sneaky, going from behind slowly, waiting to catch her off guard; they were lucky she didn’t punch them or kick them. When they stepped in front of her she smiled. ”You’re evil but deep down I know you love me” she said laughing; Ella meant loved as a friend, as in innocent joke. ”I mean as a friend Riley Richardson.”

When Riley spoke about the spot she nodded. ”Yes, let it be a nice spot so that we can have fun.” she said smiling before wrapping her arm on their arm. ”Shall we?” she said walking around the meadow trying to find a spot.

Once Ella found a spot she looked at Riley and smiled before putting her things down.

    Summer 29th
Susanna looked around the meadow, she was happy that Wyn had remembered. She looked at him smiling when he spoke, it was indeed the perfect opportunity. When his lips touched hers she kissed him back. ”I love you Wyn.” she said smiling at him.

”Shall we find a place?” she said holding his hand before kissing him on the lips softly again; she pulled away and smiled as she squeezed his hand a little. When he asked her if she wanted to eat she giggled. ”Let’s find a spot and then we can decide.” she said pointing to a vacant spot.

Susanna took Aldwyn to the spot and looked at him. ”This spot is perfect, even if it can’t get better than this.” she said looking down. ”Thank you Wyn.”
